Weekend before finals ... consisting of studying and bad TV.
I just watched 3 episodes of To Catch A Predator. That show belongs on comedy central. The best was when they used a set-up where the girl is like "Come on in, I made you some cookies but I got chocolate on my shirt so I need to go change." So the guy will grab a cookie while he waits. Then in comes Chris Hanson from Dateline NBC (thats his tageline) and reams them for being a pedophile. And they try to defend themselves with a mouth full of chocolate chip cookies. I would make a horrible cop because I honestly feel bad for these guys. You can tell they're lonely guys and many of them seem to have psych disorders. Maybe jail will straighten them out, but mostly they need help. Some are just legitimately creepy though. Makes for good entertainment, jeez. New favorite show.
Then we watched The 41 Year Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt SuperBad About It. Horrible movie, do not watch ever.
You know how Facebook is doing that thing, turn you profile picture to a cartoon from your childhood. And I was thinking about what show I watchd the most. I watched a lot of Looney Tunes, and then Nickelodeon when I got older. But I went through a phase when I was really young, like kindergarten, when I watched Beavis and Butthead all the time. You have to understand, I have 5 older brothers and sisters, so we all used to watch it. I don't know where my parents where at this time. And my sister Mallory and I would play "House" like other kids, but we would pretend Beavis and Butthead were our boyfriends. I think I had Beavis because I didn't want a boyfriend named Butthead but Mallory didn't seem to mind.
My Dad used to let me watch R rated action movies with him when my Mom was gone. I have no idea why -like who does that? I watched the Terminator when I was 5. Last of the Mohicans at age 6. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest at 7 - that one gave me nightmares for the next 10 years.
Why am I writing about this? I don't know, really. All I know is that it is 4am and I am not tired because I don't have class anymore.

I am caffeinated so I have a few things to say.
First, funny story of the day: I was at a Holiday Concert and this guy fainted off of the 4th riser and bit it, hard! And then his head was bobbing back and forth all unconcious-like while a couple of guys DRAGGED him off the stage, all while the choir continued singing Oh Come All Ye Faithful. It was some America's Funniest Videos shit. But then I heard he ended up getting stitches - wow guy, way to be a downer. There was also a delicious looking man/boy rocking the sax, and it made me wonder - why do the majority of musicians have long hair? I'm not complaining it's just like ... why?
Second funny story: Recently, out of curiousity, I asked my Mom what type of guy she thinks I'll end with. She thought for a while and said, "Well I think he's going to be handsome and smart...(pause)...but not necessarily socially adept."
Also, I think I need to put an effort into not looking like a lesbian - you know, with the short hair, minimal makeup, and lack of a boyfriend thing I've got going on here. I think my extended family is suspicous.
So, it's my LAST DAY of classes tomorrow! Followed by 3 finals and a paper next week. I have almost completed my massive To Do list that I made on Sunday.
And that's all folks. Time to finally crack that spine on my Biology book.

Thoughts
Well it has been a while since my last posting. A few things have happened - my Mom and sister came to visit for a weekend, had my 2nd round of midterms, and Halloween. Now I am looking forward to Thanksgiving break - only 2 more weeks for me!
I would say the highlight of my month was when my Mum and sister Michaela visited. They were only here for about 36 hours but we got in as much as we could. We ate at this awesome southern restaurant, Ajax, on the square, and ohmigod it was one of the best meals of my life. I now know why Southern cooking is so infamous. Take a look at the menu:
http://www.ajaxdiner.net/Ajax_Diner/Dinner_Menu.html
We had the fried pickles (which taste like dill pickle potato chips on steriods), Matty's mom's meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, red beans and rice, with sides of sweet potato casserole and cornbread dressing. UH-mazing.
I've had some bad bouts of homesickness recently. It is hard because I do like it here, but it's so hard being away from home sometimes! It's also tough doing a second freshman year - trying to meet people and build friendship and figure out what the hell the school is all about. But it is different here than St. Thomas was, because you can tell most people are excited to be here. People here are seriously so friendly. I mean, I come from "Minnesota Nice", but I think that refers to a more passive-aggressive nice, like "I won't say anything politically incorrect" or "I won't say anything to offend you." People here greet me as I pass and just come up and talk to me. I often get invited to eat lunch and dinner with people I hardly know; they just recognize me and say "come sit here!" Even today, after my music class, this girl who I had never seen before came up to me and asked how I did on the test, out of the blue. I had to look behind me to see if she was indeed talking to me. She was, and we talked as we walked back to the Grove, and I made a new friend just like that.
Those are the good things. There are bad things, like dorm life - girls screaming at eachother in the hall at 2am, public bathrooms, shower drains getting clogged by pieces of girls' weaves (something I definitely didn't have to deal with at St. Thomas), being bored to death when I have nothing to do and no car, and I don't have anywhere to go anyways. Calling home and hearing what my Mom made for dinner, missing birthdays, not being there for everyday events. But I think I'll stick it out here, probably do a semester or two abroad and maybe a semester back home at the U of M. It is scary to invest time and energy into building a life in a completely new place. It feels vulnerable. It's so much easier to be in your comfort zone - your home, the places and people you know. I get homesick when I'm tired, when I want things to be easy and don't have the energy to build friendships or make a place for myself. But I think I am happy. I have only been completely happy a couple of times in my life, but I think this place has potential.

We watch Japanese movie now
Alas, the weekend has come and gone. Eventful? Depends on how you define eventful.
Thursday night I watched The Green Mile (complete with English subtitles) with a group of Asian exchange students. There is this one Japanese girl who I say hi to (and sometimes Konichi-wa) who I want to be friends with because she is the cutest person I've ever seen - like the human version of Hello Kitty. They were all set up with their vegetable noodles and oriental cookies, and I had oreos and oatmeal creme pies. I realized as I was watching that I had never actually seen the whole movie, because my Mom only let me watch some parts (the last time I saw it I was like 10, okay?) So I was a bit surprised when Del's execution was botched and he got his brains fried out. When the movie ended, I was like what are we watching next? And they said we watch japanese movie now. So I went to bed.
Friday night I watched 'What Happens in Vegas' with my friend Anneliese. No subtitles needed there, except we did have to wait our turn for the lobby TV because the BET awards were on. That youtube guy performed that "hide yo kids, hide yo wife" song which was actually not as funny as expected.
Saturday (aka day from hell. kidding! sort of.) we had to play 3 lacrosse games. We were at the field at 10 to set up and warm up for an hour (i mean, really? we have to play 3 games). We won, lost, won. I got really sunburned and tired. I got back in time for dinner then crashed and slept for about 14 hours. It must have been an eventful sleeping session because when I woke up my mattress pad, sheets and blanket were on the floor. It was a bit painful to pry my sweaty back (and butt) off the exposed vinly mattress.
I got a late night phone call from my boys back in MN informing me that they were at a party with this boy I had crushed on a few years back who worked in the cafeteria at the U of M. I guess I really have a thing for guys in the food service industry?
Saturday night was originally supposed to spent drunkenly dancing in Memphis at the 3OH!3 concert, before I knew about my games. Sean (from 3OH!3) sang to Anneliese (mentioned above) and seductively licked a glowstick and threw it at her (she now wears it). After the concert, he put his arm around her for an extended period of time as he talked to people and signed autographs, and grabbed her boob while he signed her bra. So basically he was DTF. Sad to report the F didn't happen (her ride was leaving) but we are still very excited about this development.
Sunday I spent the whole day in town (the Square) with my friend Daria. We had brunch at the Bottletree Bakery, studied at Square Books, took a break for YaYa's frozen yogurt (cheesecake bits!), went back to Square Books, sampled some pumpkin spice roasted coffee, and more studytime.
My Mom and my sister Michaela are visiting this weekend!! But they don't have a place to stay yet! I guess all the places in Oxford are booked because it's Rush week so that sucks, looks like they're (we're) gonna have to stay in Batesville, right outside of Oxford - no biggie. So excited!

Hotty Toddy!
Well, well. My whole entire family is in Madison this weekend visiting Mal. Everybody except Morgan. Last night, driving down the dark highways of Alabama and Mississippi, I recieved a picture text of all of them together in Mal's house! Instant sadness. In addition to that, a few of my best friends are in Madison too! Oh well. My Mom, Michaela, and Greg are supposedly coming to visit me in a few weeks but no plans have been made yet.
We had our first lacrosse game Saturday! We left Ole Miss at 9:30am and drove to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for our game. It was so hot - in the 90's and we only had 14 girls (3subs) and Bama had 20-something girls. It was a close game but we won 8-6! It felt cool to wear a team uniform again - it's been a while, even though the tight red razorback tanktops are not very flattering. We celebrated our victory at Outback Steakhouse and watched South Carolina beast Alabama in football, and openly hated on Bama even though we were in "crimson tide" territory. The drive back was long and full of billboards dissing Pres Obama (okay, not that many, maybe 2 or 3, but still...billboards?)
It is seriously so hot in our dorm - the AC broke a couple of days ago and it's been 80 - 90 degrees outside. I could not sleep last night, I just layed there sweating, and at 4am I got up to go sit outside and cool off so i could get to sleep. They don't know when it will be fixed so this may be a continuing trend.
So I have officially made my blog more private, where I can say who and who cannot read it. I want to make sure that is true before I start bashing people! But seriously I do want to write about things without worrying about who might read this.

Straight Procrastinatin'
I am currently updating my blog, facebook stalking, and downloading the Glee-Britney Spears episode even though I have a paper to write. I'll get to it eventually. AND OMIGOSH! I've gotten 137 views since I started this, which is shocking to me and now I am wondering what percentage is making fun of me because I write about the stupidest stuff. I mean since it's open to everyone I have to edit my thoughts so I won't offend someone. So I'm feeling self-conscious now that I know more than 2 people read this.
I went home this weekend for 4 days and I don't think 4 days have ever passed so fast in my lyyfe. It was great, I feel much more refreshed. I got home Thursday night to a nice home-cooked meal. It was my high school's homecoming so my brothers were out late TPing people. And yes, brothers is plural, even though only ONE is actually in high school. They got back at around 3 and woke me up, we made some frozen pizza and watched TV.
On Friday I was running errands all day. I literally left my house at 8:20am and didn't get back until 2:30pm. I was driving around the cities jammin to some CDs I made in highschool, bringing back some memories. I listened to the whole "No Strings Attached" 'N Sync album. I still remember every word. Like, EVERY word, and now I understand the theory that kids have the biggest learning curve. I can remember the intro to "It Makes Me Ill", a song I used to listen to in 3rd grade but haven't heard in years, but cannot remember Supreme Court cases I learned last week.
Saturday, I went to the Mall of America with 2 of my sisters and my Mom. It was ridic busy but I got some more MN gear to rep in MS. We had a 2 1/2 hour family dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant in St. Paul (Carmello's) then I went to Minneapolis to chill with my boyz. Stayed out till 3, got up at 8 to get some stuff done before I went to watch the Twin Cities Marathon that my aunt and uncle were running. We were standing around mile 24, and it is actually amazing to watch these runners, it's incredible. There was also some people running BAREFOOT which was like WOAH. Some people say it's better to run barefoot, and I think that's true on sand or grass because it has a little give, but I really don't think that's good for your joints when you're doing it on pavement for 26 miles. But I'm not the expert I guess.
After that, I packed up, and we squeezed in another family dinner before I had to leave. Sunday was a hard day because I was going on little sleep and feeling emotional about leaving. I was feeling pretty low when I got to the airport, but when I got to my gate I was surrounded by soothing southern accents, and I knew it was going to be okay because I remembered I liked it down here.

hot omelette dude :'(
Today I came to the realization that I will not end up getting with hot omelette dude. Brief backround on this situation:
A little less than a month ago, there was this cute guy named Colby working the omelette station in the cafeteria. I didn't pay much attention to him until he was making my omelette and we started talking and he was really nice and funny, and I decided he was REALLY cute (but the omelette sucked). Since that day, I had been on the lookout for him everytime I went to the cafeteria, but he mentioned that he usually worked back in the kitchen. Fast forward to today. My friend texted me today at lunchtime that Colby was serving today. So naturally I hurried to the cafeteria - he happened to be flipping burgers. It was really busy and I got in line and when he looked up at me I realized I was grinning to myself in anticipation so thats pretty creepy. And our conversation consisted of "What cheese do you want" and I said "American". I SHOULD'VE said "Do you have Colby?" as a joke because that's his name, remember? But I didn't, and he handed me my burger and I said thanks. And I was utterly dissapointed because I had waited a month for another opportunity to talk to him! And then my friends laughed at me and we sat in the cafeteria for an hour as I waited for another chance to talk to him. So there was a point when he didn't have a line, so I took this opportunity to go get fries. He was right across the counter and I felt like I needed to say something ... anything, so I was like, "yeah that burger was really good by the way." (**CRINGING**) And he just said thanks, like kinda weirded out I think.
To sum it up: I am depressed about this new development, I'm awkward, and i'll admit, super creepy. UHHHHH!

"Beat It, Ese"
WEEKEND:
FRIDAY: History exam went well. After class, I watched the premiere of Biggest Loser while eating spaghettios w/ meatballs. Took a nap. Went with my favorite girls to the movie Easy A! It was so funny, I highly recommend it. Plus the main actress, Emma Stone, is awesome. She's like Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls but with much better comic timing. After this, I watched Never Back Down for the first time. It was highly recommended by girls on my floor, mainly because of this.
So.. I don't think ANYONE should be allowed to be that smokin hot and toned. Like, I'm almost not attracted to him because he is too sexy, I wouldn't be able to look him in the eye. Anyway, cheesy movie, sweet fight scenes, and very sexy bodies.
SATURDAY: FOOTBALL GAME! If you're not aware, people dress up for the games here. I'm talking cocktail dresses and heels. Boys wear button-up shirts or polos (pastel colors are popular) tucked into khakis and dress shoe/loafers. Not exactly my style, but hey, to each their own. I walked into town in the morning to get brunch at the best place in the Square, the Bottletree Bakery. I also had a very rare shopping 'moment'. I was in a boutique looking at some dresses, and I found the perfect one - 50% off, the only one left, my size, and cute! After I bought it, I knew it was going to be a good night. And it was! I tailgated, got a bit drunk, and ran across the football field with 2,000 other people for Rebel Run. The game was awesome and we kicked Fresno State's ass. I also discovered a new food creation when I got back to my dorm. Banana flavored oatmeal with a spoonful of peanut butter - so simple and delicious I had to make 2 bowls.
SUNDAY: I have to write this quick because I'm about to watch the Vikings game. I went to Honest Abe's Donut Shop this morning, which is this donut shop that looks like a barn on the side of the road, decorated with a bunch of animal heads. The donut (I got a cream filled chocolate one) was pretty amazing though, and I'm putting it on my list of good places to eat in Oxford.

I want to give myself a high five!
So, as I mentioned in my previous blog, I had my in-class English essay today. As expected, I started fretting as soon as I opened my eyes today. I actually seriously considered the idea of not going to class, and therefore forfeitting my grade, that's how much I did not want to do this essay. But I went, I survived, and I actually think I did okay. I just have this overwhelming fear (aka phobia) of trying to write a coherent thesis-based essay in a timed setting, I just don't work that way. But it's over and done with, on to better things!
I had a busy busy day. Class from 9-12, lunch, work-out, studied (while drinking a delicous Mint Javalanche, courtesy of Java City), Bio Lab from 4-5:50 then lax practice from 6-8 (a really hard one today). I really wanted Mallory to be there so I could throw my sweaty sports bra on her ;)
I have my first big History exam Friday. I'm not sure how I feel about this one, because I think it's going to be hard, but I also feel like I know a lot of the info. I should be studying for that now, but I thought it wise to take a short break to refresh thy mind, which turned into a 90 minute romp on facebook, twitter, e-mail, and blogger :)
I miss TV. I hardly watch it at all anymore because we don't have a TV in our dormroom. I need something else to numb my mind...suggestions?
Off to bed, my eyes kind of hurt from staring at the computer screen. I don't think that is healthy.

a new beginning?
Hello all, I am officially in the blog-o-sphere! I have a bit of work to do to make my profile relevant but my first job is to add a post. My goals for this blog: reflect on my day, share news with friends and followers, and get out my stories that I haven't had a chance to tell anyone.
So, let's begin. The beggining is always the hardest, right?
I had my first poly-sci exam this morning, I woke up late and I didn't have time to get coffee (eek!). I got an 81% which I am dissapointed with but I now know this particular teachers test-giving style and can prepare better next time. I lost most of my points because I didn't memorize all of the Supreme Court cases we covered (there was like 40, okay?). Anyways, the point is the test was fact-driven, not concept-driven.
During my short break before my next class (Intro to Music), I downed a cappuccino which I instantly regretted once I sat down for the 75 minute lecture (leg-jiggle 120x/min). We learned about Miles Davis, an innovater of 1950's cool jazz, and literally the only thing I could think about was, "If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis!" The joys of Billy Madison can sneak up on you when you're least expecting it.
After class, thorougly exhausted from my excessive leg-jiggling, I trekked it to the JC (cafeteria) to get some grub. Nothing noteworthy there. Then another class (Biology). After that, nappy time:) Throw in some quality study time, a bike ride into town, and laundry and now I'm here and another day has passed. Funny how that works.
Tomorrow, I have an in-class essay in English, something I am NOTORIOUSLY bad at and am nervous for. My anxiety was reinforced on Monday when we did a practice in-class essay to prepare for the real thing Wednesday. It was not a pleasant experience, I actually felt the urge to run away from class and cry a little bit. I resisted this urge but from the way my essay turned out it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway.
Oh yeah, I'm going home for a long weekend, Sept 30 - Oct 3! I am trying not to get too excited, but I miss home!
